While
out buying groceries, I stumbled upon Sunny Lamb Traditional Apam Balik.
Intrigued, I approached the van stall to explore this concept further. The menu
offered a captivating array of apam balik varieties and these are vegan friendly. After considering my
options, I chose the ori kelapa parut (original coconut) and jagung cheese/corn cheese. The
other varieties were equally tempting, but I decided that three pieces of these
Malaysian (EFFORTLESS MALAY DESSERTS) traditional pancakes would be enough to start with. Perhaps next
time, I will try the other varieties.
Once home, I tried the pancakes, and they
were truly a delight (INDIAN DESSERTS SWEET DELIGHTS). Crispy and generously filled, they cracked and oozed with
flavor on my palate. As a true fan of apam balik, I always prefer the thin ones
over the thick flour versions. Thin apam balik is quite hard to come by in my
area, Kota Kemuning, and when I’m in Subang Jaya, I get them from a roadside
stall. I have been on the lookout for thin apam balik within my residential
area but have not found any yet. Price-wise, Sunny Lamb Apam Balik is
affordable, and I was impressed by the variety they offer (PENANG FOOD ADVENTURE). While waiting for my
pancakes, I had an enlightening conversation with the small business owner and
learned many interesting things I didn’t know about. Zen Food

It was a
revelation to see how street food has evolved into a larger business venture.
Beyond creating new varieties, they have expanded into franchising.
The small
business owner I met is one of the franchisees, while the franchisor originally
launched the street food van stall in Kepong. There are additional franchisees
operating in various parts of Kuala Lumpur and Selangor.
Although I
didn't ask about the cost of franchising, which I probably should have, it
seemed like a very personal question. The stall owner mentioned that other
street food businesses have also ventured into franchising.
One thing that
piqued my curiosity is the name "Sunny Lamb" and its origin. It's an
intriguing brand name.
As a woman
entrepreneur, I realized that business knowledge and insights don't always come
from grand presentations or individuals in suits on stage. Nor do they have to
come from flashy influencers on social media platforms. Valuable insights can
also come from simple, down-to-earth stall owners.
This owner
generously shared his insights without expecting anything in return. He also
emphasized the importance of location. Having been in Kota Kemuning for the
last two months, he observed a lack of returning customers and noted that the
location doesn’t attract enough business. I am not sure if he has moved to
Taipan USJ as planned.
