Marble Cake Recipe: Butter Cocoa Swirl Delight

Let’s bake a marble cake, also known as swirl cake or butter cocoa cake. Regardless of the name, marble cake is fundamentally a butter cake (EASY CLASSIC BUTTER CAKE). The process is straightforward: separate the batter into two portions, stirring cocoa powder into one. Then, decide how you want to combine them. You can layer the cocoa mixture on top of the other portion, beneath it, or create a marbled effect by swirling them together with a knife, chopstick, or skewer. The choice is yours, resulting in a crumbly, melt-in-your-mouth, and delicious marble cake (EASY CHOCOLATE CAKE: ITALIAN GENOISE).

Now, let’s get started with the marble cake.

Ingredients
1/2 cup (113g) butter, softened
1/2 cup (113g) caster sugar
1 cup (113g) cake flour

2 eggs
1 1/2 tbsp milk
1 tbsp cocoa powder
1/2 tsp vanilla essence

Method

Preheat oven to 330°F (165°C).

Grease a baking pan.

Cream softened butter and caster sugar until light and fluffy.
Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.

Stir in vanilla essence and milk.
Sift  cake flour and gently fold it into the mixture.
Divide the mixture into two equal portions.
Stir cocoa powder into one portion of the batter.

Pour the plain batter into the prepared baking pan.
Spoon the cocoa batter on top.
Use a knife or skewer to swirl the two batters together gently to create a marbled effect.

Bake in the preheated oven for about 40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
