Cameron Highlands Trip: What to Do

A break from the city’s hustle and monotony - off we went to Cameron Highlands. No rush, no pressure, no fixed itinerary, just a leisurely drive (A DAY TRIP TO SEKINCHAN). Being an off-peak season and a weekday, traffic was manageable, making the journey all the more enjoyable. A late brunch along the way, and with anticipation building, we looked forward to the cool, crisp air of Cameron Highlands.

Cameron Highlands: A Highland Escape

Nestled in Pahang, Malaysia, Cameron Highlands is a place of natural beauty and colonial charm. Named after British explorer Sir William Cameron, who charted the area in 1885, this highland retreat was later developed by the British into a hill station. Today, it is renowned for its cool climate, fertile agricultural land, and winding roads that showcase breathtaking landscapes (FRASER'S HILL PAHANG).

Lata Iskandar Waterfall: A Refreshing Stop
On the way up, a stop at Lata Iskandar Waterfall was inevitable. Located along the route from Tapah to Cameron Highlands, this cascading beauty holds significance for the local Orang Asli communities, who believe in its spiritual and practical benefits.

Despite being a weekday, the area was surprisingly crowded. The sight and sound of rushing water were mesmerizing - there’s something truly magical about waterfalls, don’t you think? Standing there, soaking in the misty breeze, we let nature work its quiet magic for about 15 minutes before continuing our drive to the highlands.

Checking In: A Quiet Retreat

Booking our two-night stay online was seamless, and check-in was a breeze. We skipped the buffet breakfast option and headed straight to our room - clean, cozy, and offering a sort of lovely view of the mini garden from our balcony.

The sheer tranquility of the space made it impossible to resist - within minutes, I found myself plunging onto the bed, doing absolutely nothing for a solid half an hour. Bliss.

Exploring Tanah Rata Town
By 4 PM, with the sky turning slightly gloomy and a cool breeze setting in, we took a stroll through Tanah Rata Town. Lined with shops selling everything from daily necessities to clothing, the town had a laid-back charm.

A well-deserved foot reflexology session was next - affordable, decent, and surrounded by Western tourists, though nothing out of the ordinary. Dinner was kept simple at an unassuming eatery - roti canai, and that was it.

By the time we walked back to the hotel, Tanah Rata had already quietened down - not surprising for a weekday. Back in our room, we relished the silence, showered, and unwound in the stillness of the night. Just what we had been yearning for.
